Mental Health in Primary Care Course
Evidence-based approaches to support patients effectively and confidently
Advance your ability to deliver comprehensive mental health support
We are excited to announce this new opportunity to fund 10 places on the Mental Health in Primary Care course – Postgraduate or Professional Certificate route (valued at £2,850 per person) at Nottingham Trent University (NTU).
This course was developed in collaboration with our GP Associates, John and Paul. It aims to deliver high impact in additional provision of care for patients from workforce members not traditionally completing these reviews.
You must:
Be a registered healthcare professional, working in Notts Primary Care
Have approval from your line-manager
Meet NTU eligibility to study criteria
Complete all four modules
Participate in evaluation
As expressions of interest (EOIs) for our March intake has now closed (31/01/2026), you can add yourself to a waiting list in case we have further funding to run another cohort in the future.
If we receive more interest than funded places, we will go through a selection process to have a fair spread across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire localities and roles. Once funding is approved via us, you will then need to complete the NTU application process.
Opportunity for mental health education
Course is aimed at:
Registered Nurses
Advanced Practitioners
ARRS (Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme) Team

Course aims
Provide education on the long-term condition approach for supporting individuals with mental ill health, in the primary care setting
Address the disparity between mental health and physical health care
Build skills in engaging client, assessing need, formulating a treatment plan, and accessing a range of support to meet that need
Understand the range of support in primary care, secondary care, social care, and the third sector
Enhance practitioners' ability and confidence in critically reflecting on their practice
