The People Powering Health and Care

Allied Health Professionals
Every year on 14 October, we celebrate Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), a dynamic group of clinicians who bring compassion, skill, and innovation to every part of the NHS. They make recovery possible and independence achievable.

This year’s AHPs Day theme, “Hospital to Community; Treatment to Prevention; Analogue to Digital”, reflects how AHPs are shaping the future of integrated, person-centred care.

Who Are Allied Health Professionals?

AHPs form the third-largest clinical workforce in the NHS, a family of 5 professions working across Primary Care.

They include:
""
Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists
""
Dietitians
""
Paramedics
""
Podiatrists
These professionals often work behind the scenes, but their impact is felt in every patient’s journey, from prevention to recovery and beyond.

The Quiet Change-Makers of the NHS

They prevent problems before they escalate.
They empower people to live well.

They drive innovation.

They collaborate to make systems stronger.
AHPs are innovators, connectors, and problem-solvers, shaping how we deliver health and care across all settings.
Here’s why their work matters more than ever:

AHPs spot early warning signs and support recovery before hospital care is needed.
AHPs help patients stay independent and confident in their communities.
From virtual rehab to digital triage, AHPs are leading on tech-driven solutions in care.
AHPs bridge the gap between sectors, supporting the NHS’s shift towards integrated care.
