Name: Somalia Carty
Role: Operations and Communications Apprentice
Organisation: Nottinghamshire Alliance Training Hub (NATH)

What apprenticeships are you currently undertaking or have undertaken? When did you start the apprenticeship? How long is the apprenticeship?

As of June 2021, I am currently undertaking a 15 month Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.

How did you find out about the apprenticeship?

I signed up to an apprenticeship agency.

Why did you decide to start the apprenticeship?

I decided to start this apprenticeship because I wanted to find an entrance route into the working world. An apprenticeship would give me the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and allow me to learn while doing it!

What have you learned during the apprenticeship that has benefited your personal and professional development, as well as the development of your team/organisation?

This apprenticeship has helped me learn about project management, social media, IT and so much more. These are great transferable skills that can prove valuable in variety of professional roles. Personally, this apprenticeship has helped me form great work-place relationships and grown my interpersonal skills.

What support have you received in your workplace to enable you to successfully work on your apprenticeship alongside your day-to-day work responsibilities?

I have received so much support from my colleagues here at NATH, they’re always here to answer my questions and give me advice! I have also felt incredibly supported by Futures the training agency that runs my apprenticeship, I have monthly reviews to see how I’m doing and if there’s anything Futures can do to help me get the most out of my apprenticeship.

Why do you think apprenticeships would be a good option for other people?

I think apprenticeships are a great opportunity for everyone. Whatever your needs there will be an apprenticeship that fits your needs. Every apprenticeship is so different and there’s bound to be one out there that’s perfect for you!

After completing your apprenticeship, what are your goals from gaining these new skills and expertise?

My goal after my apprenticeship is to continue to develop and transition to a permanent role with NATH.

What words of advice would you give someone who is about to start a new apprenticeship?

Be confident! Don’t be afraid to ask questions and try out new things.
