You Said... We Did!
Written by Louise Woodward, 07/02/2025
Over November-December 2024 we asked our event delegates to shape how we promote training so you can quickly see what is relevant for you to attend. Huge thank you to those who provided feedback which has helped design our training rebrand and how we advertise events.

Summary of feedback

The meaning of CPD

We recognise that the term ‘CPD’ (Continuous Professional Development) means different things to different people, so we asked you that question. Here’s what it means to you:

Keep knowledge and skills up-to-date on old and new subjects relevant to my practice that can also be shared with peers / patients
Need to keep my registration / revalidation
Gain insights
Personal development

All of our events are CPD as they provide opportunities for you to gain or refresh your knowledge, skills and behaviours. We will make it clear on our adverts that they are CPD training. We are aware that some organisations / roles have set requirements on what is classed as ‘CPD’ and that is down to the discretion of each organisation.

Reaction to our MPSU brand

Multi-Professional Support Unit (MPSU)
You had mixed views about what ‘MPSU’ meant with nearly half not knowing what it was and the other half sharing that MPSU was:

Support for all levels of practitioners in Primary Care
A local training provider and funding source for external courses
Knowing who to contact to be able to help with my training needs
Group of Fellows helping to organise education updates and networking opportunities

We have therefore decided to remove the term ‘MPSU’ (Multi-Professional Support Unit) from how we advertise events, but we will still retain the principles that have been described.

Key information to identify relevant training

You provided really helpful insights into how you search for and decide on what training is relevant to you and whether you can attend.
Title and summary sentence is most important when browsing events. Full details 57%. Summary sentence 71%. Title under thumbnail 43%. Title on thumbnail 71%. Thumbnail image 14%. Heading on thumbnail 43%.
Where applicable, we will ensure our adverts and event descriptions include:

Which roles it is suitable / eligible for
Unambiguous titles
What level the training is aimed at
Concise summary without duplication
Learning outcomes and expectations / aims and objectives
Key details (date, time, duration, location / online, cost)
How it is relevant to work / how it helps patients
If the course will gain new knowledge or refresh knowledge
Keywords relating to topic
Pre-course requirements
You also raised that events need to be published with plenty of advance notice. We work to advertising events at least 6 weeks in advance of their start date. To help showcase this, we will start to include the date it was made live to improve our transparency.

We will include whether the event is a regular / repeat event we host so you can easily see what is new and what is a recurring course. Some of our courses (Clinical Supervision) are accredited and where this is the case, we will make it prominent as we are aware this can help managers to release your time to attend.

Bringing our events workstreams all together

The main purpose of our survey was to help us merge together all our different events workstreams under one umbrella. This will make it more meaningful for you when searching for training and hopefully more recognisable that we (your Notts Training Hub) are the ones designing and delivering these bespoke training events for you, based on your training needs.

So, what does that mean?

The main difference you will see is our event advert thumbnails / images, which will now contain the key decision-making criteria you outlined in our survey. The booking process via Eventbrite will remain the same.

New thumbnail example (not real event)
We will no longer be using terms such as ‘MPSU event’, ‘ARRS event’ or ‘Shared Learning Programme’ as the most relevant information is around topic title, job role eligibility, level and date / time / location.

Our event descriptions will be more structured and include learning outcomes, pre-course requirements, and how it helps patients (where relevant). We’ll remove any duplication and ensure summary statements enable you to get the gist of the event in a sentence snapshot.

You’ll see changes on our website to replace our Multi-Professional Support Unit pages with our new umbrella events programme, named ‘Notts Primary Care Training’ (keeping it simple and to the point!). This brings together team members from MPSU, CPD, ARRS and Shared Learning Programme events. They will be using your feedback from the 2025 Notts Primary Care Training Needs Analysis to create our events programme for 2025-26 based on your development needs, designed and delivered by your local clinicians and experts.

You'll also see the new branding across our Eventbrite.
