Deaf Awareness in Primary Care

We held a face to face event in collaboration with Nottingham Deaf Society and invited everyone in General Practice to attend, both clinical and non clinical. The aims of the session were to understand the impact of being deaf on accessing health care, what interventions can be made to cater for this community and a short training session on Basic British Sign Language.

It empowers patients and makes them feel heard, supports professional development, and ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards around access
Deaf awareness within Primary Care is essential for effective communication, equitable access to care, improved patient outcomes, and creating an inclusive and supportive healthcare environment. It empowers patients and makes them feel heard, supports professional development, and ensures compliance with legal and ethical standards around access.
Ultimately this contributes to reducing health inequalities and promoting health equity.
