The NHS Entry Careers Programme team is calling on colleagues across the system to help shape an exciting new national resource, the NHS Workforce Supply Toolkit (WST).
This new toolkit will serve as a one-stop directory of resources to help NHS organisations attract, recruit, and retain staff more effectively. Its purpose is simple but powerful: to share best practice, reduce duplication, and create a consistent, data-driven approach to workforce planning and supply across the NHS.
What Is the Workforce Supply Toolkit?
The Workforce Supply Toolkit is being designed as a central, accessible platform that brings together trusted tools, guidance, and case studies focused on workforce supply for all NHS staff groups (excluding medical and dental).
From recruitment campaigns and attraction strategies to onboarding frameworks and workforce planning templates, the toolkit will help organisations identify what works and apply those insights locally.
Ultimately, it aims to:
Reduce variation in recruitment practices across regions
Strengthen workforce planning capacity
Share proven tools and approaches from across the NHS
Create a collaborative space for continuous learning and improvement
How You Can Get Involved
As demand on primary care continues to grow, the need for modern, efficient systems has never been greater. This new diagnostic framework gives practices the structure and insight needed to:
Improve care coordination and patient flow
Reduce unnecessary workload pressures on clinical teams
Deliver more responsive and equitable access to care
Strengthen digital-first pathways that align with the NHS’s Modern General Practice model
You can:
Share existing workforce supply resources, including frameworks, templates, reports, or local initiatives that have supported recruitment and retention within your organisation.

Why Your Input Matters
Workforce challenges are shared across the NHS, but so are the solutions. Many teams have already developed innovative, practical ways to strengthen recruitment pipelines and staff retention, and this toolkit will bring those ideas together to benefit the whole system.
By contributing, you’ll be helping to create a dynamic, collaborative resource that makes it easier for others to learn from your success, while also gaining access to a growing national network of workforce professionals.
