My journey into nursing
I completed the Trainee Nursing Associate programme with a hospital trust in 2023, but from the very beginning of my training I knew I wanted to work within General Practice.
That early decision shaped my career path and gave me a clear goal to work towards as I developed my clinical skills and confidence.
Starting my role in General Practice
Once qualified, I joined Orchard Surgery as a Nursing Associate, where I stayed for three years.
During this time, I really valued the wide range of opportunities and clinical tasks involved in practice nursing. I gained a huge amount of knowledge and experience, and it helped me grow both professionally and personally.
I loved being part of a supportive nursing team while also developing my ability to work more independently in practice.
Taking the next step: becoming a Registered Nurse
It had always been part of my long-term plan to complete the 18-month Nursing Associate to Registered Nurse (NA2RN) programme.
As I became more confident and experienced in my role, I felt this was the right time to take the next step in my development.
I applied for the Student Nurse Apprenticeship via the University of Derby, supported by my practice, with help from the Nottinghamshire Alliance Training Hub in securing funding.
Starting my degree journey
I began the programme in January 2026 and have been really enjoying it so far.
I feel very grateful for the opportunity to continue my studies and develop further in my career while still remaining closely connected to General Practice.
What I enjoy most about my role
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is building 1:1 relationships with patients and supporting them throughout their healthcare journey.
I love being able to follow their progress and recovery over time.
It is also very fulfilling to be a valued member of the nursing team while continuing to grow my autonomy and clinical confidence.
What’s next?
“I am really excited to see where my future nursing career within General Practice will take me.
There are so many opportunities ahead, and I look forward to continuing to learn, develop, and contribute to patient care in a meaningful way.”
