Every day, NHS staff go above and beyond to provide compassionate, high-quality care, often under significant pressure. To help create safer and more supportive environments for everyone, NHS England has released updated resources for primary care teams to encourage kindness and respect towards healthcare staff.
Resources for Practices
Primary care teams can now download posters, digital materials, and campaign assets designed to remind patients to treat NHS staff with courtesy and respect. These materials can be displayed in waiting areas, shared on practice websites, or used in digital communications to reinforce a culture of mutual respect between staff and patients.
You can access all materials via the Help Us Help You: NHS Staff Respect campaign page.
Violence Prevention and Reduction Support
In addition to campaign materials, NHS England has updated its Violence Prevention and Reduction (VPR) resources and standard. These tools support practices in preventing and managing incidents of violence or aggression, while also strengthening workplace wellbeing and safety.
Teams are encouraged to explore:
The updated NHS England VPR Standard
The 1-hour e-Learning Course, designed for all healthcare staff
Level 3, 4, and 5 VPR training, available through the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH)
These training opportunities aim to equip staff with practical strategies for de-escalation, conflict management, and supporting colleagues affected by workplace violence.
Learning and Development Opportunities
To further support staff, a range of training and e-learning opportunities are available as part of this national effort:
🕒 1-Hour e-Learning Course:
A quick and accessible learning module suitable for all healthcare staff, focusing on recognising, managing, and preventing violence and aggression in the workplace.
🎓 Level 3, 4, and 5 VPR Training (via the Royal Society for Public Health):
Designed for those in supervisory or leadership roles, this training builds confidence in applying prevention strategies, supporting colleagues, and implementing organisational safety policies.
These learning offers are a vital part of embedding a proactive approach to violence prevention across the NHS.
Building a Culture of Care and Safety
Respect, kindness, and safety go hand in hand. By using these resources and embedding the updated VPR framework, primary care teams can continue to foster workplaces that protect staff wellbeing while improving patient experience.
Together, we can ensure that every NHS space remains a place of care, compassion, and dignity, for both staff and patients.
