All you need is a 3-minute Reset
In the rush of back-to-back appointments, endless tasks, and the constant pulse of patient care, the idea of “self-care” can feel like a luxury - something to be pencilled in on a weekend, not practiced between clinics.
But here’s the truth: self-care doesn’t have to be big to make a big difference.
Micro self-care, small, intentional moments of pause, can bring focus, calm, and resilience to even the most fast-paced primary care day. All it takes is three minutes. Sometimes, even less.
Whether you’re clinical or non-clinical, based in a practice, pharmacy, or on the move, these quick resets are for you.
🌬️ 1. The Breathing Reset
You don’t need a meditation app or yoga mat—just 60 seconds of quiet.
Try this:
Inhale for 4 counts
Hold for 4
Exhale for 4
Pause for 4
Repeat 3 times.
It’s called box breathing, and it’s used by athletes and frontline professionals alike to reset the nervous system.
🧠 2. Gratitude in the Margins
Between patient notes or at the end of a shift, jot down:
One thing that made you smile today
One colleague you're grateful for
One win, however small
Over time, these tiny reflections add up to a more grounded and hopeful mindset.
Stick them in a notebook, a post-it, or even your Notes app.
🪑 3. The Stretch You Can Do in Uniform
We sit. A lot. Even when we don’t want to.
Try this 1-minute reset at your desk or standing up:
Roll your shoulders back and down
Interlace your fingers, stretch your arms overhead
Look left and right slowly to release neck tension
Take three deep breaths, then drop your arms
Simple. No gym required.
💬 4. A Shout-Out Counts as Self-Care
Kindness lifts both sides. Take 30 seconds to send a quick message to a colleague:
“You handled that so well.”
“Thanks for backing me up earlier.”
“You’ve been smashing it lately.”
That moment of recognition? That’s wellbeing, too.
Micro-Care is Still Care
We talk a lot about protecting wellbeing across the workforce, and that includes the little things. Especially the little things.
In a system under pressure, it’s easy to neglect our own needs. But even three minutes can help reset your rhythm, ground your mindset, and remind you that you matter too.
So, the next time you catch your breath between tasks, take a pause on purpose.
You don’t need an hour. You just need a moment.
