RESTORE2 and RESTORE2Mini
Free early deterioration training for care homes and home care providers
RESTORE2 is an excellent tool which helps carers to recognise early signs of deterioration in those they care for. By recognising deterioration earlier we improve outcomes for those we care for by getting the right help to them as quickly as possible. RESTORE2 is proven to reduce non-elective hospital admissions. It also provides very structured information for clinicians to enable them to act appropriately according to patient needs.
The Lead Trainer for RESTORE2, Michele Tuttle, works for the Nottinghamshire Alliance Training Hub (NATH) and is able to offer FREE training in RESTORE2 and RESTORE2Mini to all care homes and home care providers in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. This training is offered in partnership with the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and the East Midlands Patient Safety Collaborative.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to up-skill your staff and provide even better care than you already do for your residents / service users.
Expected outcomes from the training
Reduce deterioration-associated harm in adults
Increase the safety of patients / residents / service providers who are vulnerable to deterioration
Increase system coordination around deteriorating patients
What is RESTORE2?
RESTORE2 is a physical deterioration and escalation package designed specifically for residential and nursing homes, and the domiciliary care sector. It will help support the work you already do supporting Enhanced Health in Care Homes (EHCH) home rounds and Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDTs).

Soft Signs – Uses soft signs language developed with carers to support easy recognition of possible deterioration.
NEWS2 – (National Early Warning Score) – Set of clinical observations which improves the detection and response to clinical deterioration in adult patients and is a key element of patient safety and improving patient outcomes.
SBARD – (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, Decision) – Communication to achieve a clear, structured and concise communication between MDTs during the handover process or when recording incidents.

Why RESTORE2?
Recognise when someone may be deteriorating or at risk of physical deterioration
Act appropriately according to the patient’s care plan and treatment escalation plan
Be confident to measure a complete set of physiological observations (observations) to inform escalation and conversations with health professionals
Escalate to the most appropriate health professional in a timely manner with the right and relevant information to aid professional
Why RESTORE2Mini?
Where there are limitations to implementing all elements of RESTORE2 due to familiarity, kit availability etc., providers are encouraged to use RESTORE2Mini
What do organisations say, that are already using the tool?
“Staff feel more confident in the actions they are taking in regards to a deteriorating resident.”

“Since receiving RESTORE2 training the care home manager reported how easy they found it to implement. Although, acknowledging at first some staff felt nervous expressing that they didn’t think they had the skills - this was soon overcome once they had received the training, with staff saying they now understand exactly what signs they are looking for.”
“It is so much easier and quicker to speak with medical professionals after using this tool as it gives a better picture of the present deterioration in the residents compared with the usual presentation when unwell. It gives medical professionals a score to go off.”

“GPs state they are receiving far more detailed information from providers using RESTORE2 which enables them to make the appropriate decision as to what course of action to take.”
“The Advanced Nurse Practitioner commented on how helpful the documentation was and that it assisted her in her response and assessment.”

“Mrs S was diagnosed with a chest infection and antibiotics prescribed. Due to us using RESTORE2, a visit from a health professional was organised in a timely manner and appropriate medications prescribed and administered in the space of a few hours.”
“The care home staff started seeing NEWS2 scores up as high as 7 during the first wave of COVID-19. Using the RESTORE2 tool supported the care home staff in getting a timely and appropriate response.”

“Staff have since stated (after using RESTORE2) that they feel more confident escalating concerns regarding a resident’s health as the tool is recognised and easy to use. It creates an easy to follow plan which fills the staff with confidence.”
