Written by Jamie Lambert-Smith, 08/11/2023

Why did you want to take on this role / what attracted you to this role and NATH?

I hope this role will give me the opportunity to apply the skills I’ve acquired in industry and in the third sector and use them to make a difference.

What did you do prior to this role / what is your career background?

I’ve worked mainly as a graphic designer and content editor at design agencies and as an in-house graphic designer, including four years working within the Education and Employment Division and Communications team at RNIB.

What qualifications / training helped you progress into this role?

I studied graphic design in the 1990s culminating in a BA Hons in Graphic Design at Nottingham Trent Uni. Since then, I’ve acquired skills in the workplace as technology and platforms have evolved over the last three decades.

What are your responsibilities at NATH?

I will be helping to develop and maintain NATH’s communications and publications to promote the services offered by the hub.

How would you like to ensure your work is accessible to all and promotes equality, diversity and inclusion?

I hope to draw on my experiences working with the RNIB to help ensure that our communications are as accessible as possible so that we can position ourselves as a role model for other services looking to make themselves more accessible to the population.

What are the top 3 things you would like to achieve over the next 6 months in the role?

I hope to help grow the Hub’s online audience reaching out to as many potential users as possible and help promote a respectful online community with a healthy attitude to mutual professional development in Primary Care. Above all, I hope I can use my skills to contribute to the continuation of the NHS.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I enjoy gardening, woodland walks and when injuries allow, running. Mostly though, I’m just spending time with my three children, while they are still children.

Favourite holiday destination you would recommend and why?

Pembrokeshire in Wales. I wouldn’t recommend it though as I quite like having the beach to myself.

Favourite cuisine, restaurant, dish you would recommend and why?

Hard to choose, but probably Tiger Bites Pig in Birmingham. I’d recommend anything that comes with their cured egg. I’m equally partial to a good pub ploughman’s though.

If you could be any animal for a day, what would you choose and why?

I’d probably choose to be a kestrel or a buzzard. Just to feel what it’s like to hover or glide like that.

Any recent films / TV shows / books you have watched / read that you would recommend and why?

The most recent notable thing I’ve watched was probably the latest series of ‘What We Do in The Shadows’. I can watch or listen to Matt Berry in anything, and it makes me smile, whatever mood I’m in.

What is your hidden party trick / ‘super power’ talent?

I’m not sure I’ve got one aside from recalling David Bowie trivia.

What are you looking forward to most over the next year working at NATH?

I’m looking forward to providing a useful resource to the rest of the team, to help them all do what they do best.
